Congratulations to Heather Blount, Intervention Specialist at Hooverville Elementary for being nominated and selected for the 2023 Outstanding Teacher Award sponsored by the Shippensburg University Superintendent Study Council. Heather was honored at the Outstanding Teacher Award Luncheon on November 15th at Shippensburg University. This award is to recognize the accomplishments of exemplary educators who serve our region’s students and schools.
Reflections from Dianne Eberhardt, Hooverville Principal: Heather is an asset to the Waynesboro Area School District. She is an outstanding leader and has taken a leadership role within our school and community at large. As part of our intervention team, she is called upon to train staff members and new teachers in the Science of Reading and best practices. Heather’s knowledge of interpreting data and making adjustments to programming for learners is phenomenal. She continues to challenge herself with new ideas and innovative approaches. She has served on numerous committees at the district level and currently serves on the First Choice career committee. She is extremely respected in the school and community with a focus on fostering relationships.
This school year she has created The Hornet Home Connection. These monthly parent and family workshops address a variety of topics. The goal of this new initiative is to foster a high level of parent and family engagement at Hooverville Elementary while focusing on the whole child pillar. The workshops are one hour and consist of a twenty minute family sessions with an activity centered around the monthly theme that involves the whole family. It is followed by a 40 minute parent connection session with a speaker directly connected to the theme of the night. In addition, Heather has also recently received a donation to implement, 1 book 1 school for the Hooverville families.
Congratulations to Heather Blount for a well deserved honor.
